Welcome Back!

August 2018
Dear Room 37 Families,

Welcome to 4th grade! I am very excited to meet each one of you on the first day of school and be your fourth grade teacher. I hope you all had a restful and relaxing summer. My name is Jessica Steinau and I am a native of Marin myself. I grew up in San Rafael and moved away to Oregon to pursue my higher education. I moved back to the Bay Area for graduate school and have since made a home for myself in San Francisco. This is my eighth school year working in the Mill Valley community and I am extremely proud to call Edna Maguire my home! I am thrilled to apply my experience and continued professional development in 4th grade where I can challenge and help my students reach their goals and help them grow academically and socially in what is an impactful and exciting year.
Your children will experience so many amazing new things this year! Fourth grade curriculum is challenging, engaging, thought-provoking and FUN. Children coming into this year will make the transition from younger students to the leaders of our school. They will feel a shift in responsibility and start to take more ownership of their actions and their work. I greatly look forward to being a part of this time in your children’s lives.
To start the school year, we will focus on building a safe and supportive community in our classroom to ensure that all of the students feel that they have a comfortable place at school in which to learn and grow.  I look forward to learning what inspires and excites your child as an individual so that I can provide the support that they need to succeed this year.  Please help me get to know your child by completing the survey that accompanies this letter and returning it to me during the first week of school. This is your first opportunity to tell me about the strengths and challenges specific to your student.  I look forward to reading what you have to tell me! See you soon!

Sincerely,

Jessica Steinau
